Busch
Stadium
Though clearly
one of the despised cookie cutter styled stadiums of the 1960's
/ '70's, Busch has been spared the hatred that the others have
felt. It may be that the central downtown location played a part
in that assessment as this view from the Gateway Arch details.
A view from across
the street. A distinctive feature of Busch Stadium is the replication
of the Gateway Arch incorporated into the top of the stadium.
As can be seen
in the image below, which dates back to the early 1990's, Busch
Stadium used to have a synthetic turf field, which has since been
replaced with natural grass. Interestingly, when the stadium opened
in 1966, the field was natural grass, making Busch Stadium the
only current ballpark to go from natural grass to synthetic turf
and back to natural grass. Being a multi purpose stadium, you
can also make out the faint outline of the football field.
Looking down
at the field from high in the upper deck from behind the plate...
... and the mirror view from
centerfield.
