Citizens
Bank Park
Still under construction
in the image above, Citizens Bank Ballparks glows in the setting
Philadelphia sun.
There is nothing
wrong with this image. Yes, the largest image outside the ballpark
is a huge picture of the team mascot- the Phanatic, not any of
the players.
In addition to
the Phanatic, another Philadelphia icon is seen at the ballpark-
The Liberty Bell, which is "rung" whenever a Phillie
homers.
The bullpens
are located behind right field, in front of Ashburn Alley, and
next the the Phillies Hall of Fame. The upper pen is for the visiting
team. Originally the upper pen was the Phillies', but legend has
it that Billy Wagner did not like walking down the stairway to
the field, and had the bullpens switched during the first season.
Another mammoth
scoreboard, standard in all the new ballparks, over the left field
bleachers.
The brickwork
of the batters backdrop will eventually be covered in ivy. Note
that the backdrop is actually a series of three distinct brick
walls.
Some of the statues
around the ballpark. First, a bronze Steve Carlton about to release
a slider.
This statue of
Robin Roberts is a bit strange. I am unsure as to why it is black
and white, like an old photograph, or an image that one would
have seen in the newspaper, a magazine or on television, not at
the ballpark.
For some strange
reason, Connie Mack has been relegated to the parking lot, holding
court over the ticket scalpers.
Like old Jarry
Park, there is a swimming pool behind right field, though this
one is only for the kiddies.
The view of of
downtown Philadelphia from the upper deck.
An interior view
of the bottom of the ninth on a sunny June afternoon.
