Jarry
Park / Parc Jarry
When the Expos
joined the National League in 1969, they played at Jarry Park.
The small ballpark was their home for 8 seasons until they moved
to Olympic Stadium.
As seen
in the old postcard below, the scoreboard was simple in design,
as was common at the time. Behind the scoreboard was a large public
pool. It is not clear in the image, but you can make out the small
light towers to the right of the scoreboard.
Well the
public pool is still there today (Sept. 2003), as are the light
towers.
An old
postcard view from the right field stands of the grandstand looking
toward home plate. The press level is made of corrugated sheet
metal, with the radio and television broadcast booths directly
behind the plate.
Today
(September, 2003) the view of the upper level exhibits little
change from the original interior of the ballpark, (other than
some cosmetic sprucing up). The main section of the grandstand
is unchanged from the days of the Expos. The lower level seats
were added to accommodate the tennis court for which the now renamed
Stade du Maurier (Maurier Stadium) is primarily used.
Up close
& personal from the rear of the press level. Air conditioners
were retro fitted into the booths. Note the padding around each
unit.
Some of
the old ballpark seats are still used to add capacity for larger
events as needed.
One last
look from short centerfield, about 25 feet above the playing surface.
