League
Park
In making a trip
to Cleveland to see the last series played in old Municipal Stadium,
some of the staff (though they actually weren't back then) of
ebaseballparks.com made a pilgrimage to the Indians
former home. Situated at the crossing of Lexington & 66th,
there are scattered remains of a neighborhood ballpark. Unfortunately,
as you can see in this image, there is a chain linked fence directly
in front of the Ohio Historical Marker. It made getting a clear
picture impossible. The field and part of the right field pavilion
remain.
In the image
below, there is a modern view of the old ticket office. You can
make out the name League Park Center over the door on the right.
In the image
below, there is a similar perspective from a postcard from around
the 1920's. The ticket office building actually existed on the
site prior to the construction of League Park. The ballpark was
actually built around the structure and then incorporated it into
the plan.
Here is all that
remains of the right field stands. This section would be just
behind first base, with the end of the dugout on the left. The
layout of the infield is unchanged from when the Tribe played
there.
Commissioner's Note:
There was some municipal
work done at the location during the summer of 2003. It is unclear
as to what currently remains at the site.
