Cleveland
Municipal Stadium
One of the larger
ballparks ever to host ballgames, Cleveland Municipal Stadium,
at times has been linked to owing part of it's construction as
an attempt to garner the 1932 Olympic Games.
The smiling Indian
at bat was a familiar feature welcoming you to the ballpark.
Other than changing
the outfield dimension over the years, there were no other alterations
to the ballpark from the first time her gates were open. Below
is an interior image that would be basically the same (except
for the seat colors) from any year up to 1993.
Cleveland
Municipal Stadium- Last Stand
The "Mistake
By The Lake" never looked finer than in the early fall of
1993. There was one last series to be played by the Indians. They
hosted the Chicago White Sox for three games in October. 72,390
fans were in attendance for the final game, surpassing the figure
of the day before of 72,060. The usual ceremonies were held, players
ringed the infield, old time favorites were brought back for a
final curtain call, even Bob Hope, one time minority shareholder,
came back for a few jokes , and to say Thanks For The Memories...
Another view
from the upper deck, this one a wide angle of the last game.
