Riverfront Stadium / Cinergy Field

The last pitch has been thrown at Cinergy Field / Riverfront Stadium by Jose Mesa. Todd Walker will ground out to Tomas Perez to seal a 4 - 3 Phillies win at 4:16 P.M.

Riverfront Stadium / Cinergy Field as she appeared for much of her life. One of the cookie cutter, artificial turf, multi purpose, state of the art stadiums of the 1970's.

An interior postcard picture of the stadium. Riverfront Stadium / Cinergy Field was the first ballpark to have an artificial turf covered infield with only sliding pits around the bases.

The location of the ballpark, on the banks of the Ohio River, just across from Kentucky, make for a picturesque setting. The Roebling bridge is to her left, and to the right, is the (then) still under construction Great American Ballpark. Unfortunately, none of the vistas could be seen from her interior.

One of the intrinsic, and distinctive features of the ball park was the large amount of parking located under the stadium in the garage. You could literally park under home plate.

Retired numbers from some of the greats in Reds history are honored on a supporting wall behind the left field fence. From top to bottom they are:

Though real grass was used for the last two years at the ball park, as the image above shows, the Reds bullpen was still covered with artificial turf.

Under the stands, there was not a lot of Reds paraphernalia, or, for that matter, even much of the color red.
