Yankee
Stadium
The best way
to get to the stadium is to forget the car, and take the IRT.
The date is August
4, 1985. It is Phil Rizzuto Day. Tom Seaver is pitching in search
of his 300th career win. Responding to chants of "Let's Go
Mets!" from the capacity crowd, Seaver does not disappoint
with a complete game victory.
Prior to it's
renovation in the early 1970's, the famed facade adorned the upper
deck, rather than the outfield wall (as seen above). The postcard
image below, captures the original expanse, and larger than life
feel of the stadium.
Getting ready
for a game against the Mets. This was the game that started all
the recent problems with Roger Clemens. Three home runs (including
a grand slam by Piazza) result in a 12-2 Mets thumping.
A view from an
upper deck box seat, which has been renamed to tier box seat,
evidently to compensate for the higher prices, the seats now have
a more upscale name.
A field level
view prior to taking on the Red Sox on a dreary New York afternoon.

Another ballpark
view from behind the foul pole. Looking straight out from the
right field corner, you can notice the lack of foul territory
in the stadium. Also, look closely at this image, and one can
see how the Yankees can save money in certain maintenance aspects
of the ballpark. The screen is fastened to the foul pole with
duct tape, and what appears to be twine.
A little known
or observed feature of Yankee Stadium is that, like Wrigley Field,
the team pennants are arranged according to the standings at the
start of the day. In the image below, Boston started the day in
first (followed by New York, Toronto, Baltimore and Tampa Bay).
Unfortunately for Boston, they finished the day in second place.
Monument
Park
One of the attractions
of Yankee Stadium is the celebration of the rich history of the
Bronx Bombers in Monument Park. Gates open early, and one can
stroll through the hallowed grounds and view the memorials to
past Yankees.
